AMD is changing processor names
AMD, Advanced Micro Devices, one of two world's best processor makers (other is off course Intel), is changing names of his processors. Reason for this is not clear, but maybe in future we will understand why.
New names or markings will have two letters and four digits.
- First letter will represent position of processor on market:
G - series for high end processors
B - series, middle class processors
L - series, cheapest processors
- Second letter will represent temperature design and consumption:
P - consumption over 65W
S - consumption around 65W
E - consumption bellow 65W
- First of 4 digits will represent class:
1xxx - single core AMD Athlon or ADM Sempron
2xxx - 2-cores AMD Athlon
6xxx - 2-cores AMD Phenom
7xxx - 4-cores AMD Phenom
- Second digit will represent relative speed of precessor.
- Third and fourth digit remain for additional improvements of current processors.
So, something like this should be ok, GP7900, wright?
